Energy Week Uzbekistan is held under the auspices of the Government of Uzbekistan to demonstrate prospects of the country’s energy sector and to unlock the potential of international cooperation. The event covers the country’s whole electric power industry with mix of generating sources and strong focus on renewable energy as well as transmission and distribution networks.

Chirchik HPPs Cascade

Large-scale hydropower construction in Uzbekistan began in 1932 with the construction of Chirchik HPPs on the Chirchik River.  

Chirchik HPP named after F.GLoginov (HPP-7) was previously called Komsomolskaya HPP. The first unit was launched on September 30, 1940. The HPP is included in a single complex with Tavaksay HPP. 

The launch of the first and second units at both hydropower plants was carried out in 1940-41, the third and fourth units were commissioned in 1953-56. 

Cascade of Chirchik HPPhas the following technical characteristics: 

  • Installed capacity – 150 MW
  • Number of units – 6
  • Water consumption – 1140 m3 / s
  • Annual output – 470 million kWh
