The Agency for Development of Nuclear Power under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, “Uzatom”, was formed by the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan “On Measures for the Development of Nuclear Power in the Republic of Uzbekistan” of July 19, 2018.
In October 2018, the President of Uzbekistan approved the agreement with Russia on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the Tudakul reservoir in Uzbekistan. The station will be constructed according to the Russian project, similar to the one built in the Belarusian Ostrovets. The estimated cost of the project is $ 11 billion.
Rosatom plans to build a complex of two power units, the launch of the first power unit is planned in 2028. According to the plan, the capacity of the nuclear power plant will be 2300 MW, which should cover up to 20% of Uzbekistan’s electricity needs.
